How you doin’? Even if you can't go out to see the Nutcracker ballet this holiday season, tap into the festivities with my Sugar Plum Bubbly Cocktail. I love the year-end holidays!
 
The Sugar Plum Fairy is coming to town with her magical plum drink, just in time for the year-end holidays. My plum cocktail is so easy to make with espresso, plum brandy and bubbly Champagne or Prosecco. If you're as feisty as the Sugar Plum Fairy add a little extra interest with a splash of Irish Cream.  It's the perfect cocktail to make if you plan on streaming a previous performance of The Nutcracker at home, or even during your holiday Zoom celebration!
 
Prep time:  5 minutes
Yield:  2 cocktails
 
Ingredients 
Purple sanding sugar (can be found in the cake decorating section)
1 ounce plum brandy
1 ounce chilled espresso
2 sugar cubes (I prefer to use the Italian organic sugar cubes)
8 ounces champagne
 
Directions
  1. Wet the edges of two champagne flutes with water.
  2. Rim with purple sanding sugar and set aside.
  3. Pour the brandy and espresso into another glass or pitcher-style measuring cup and stir to combine.
  4. Add a sugar cube to each champagne flute. Divide brandy mixture evenly between the two glasses.
  5. Divide champagne evenly between the two champagne flutes, making sure to pour slowly as the drink will fizz up when combined.
  6. Serve immediately.

ChefSecret:  I love using Italian Le Perruch brown pure cane sugar cubes for both the look and the flavor—it adds so much for both the look and the taste of this cocktail. I like to suck on them straight out of the box or feed them to a horse at the rodeo at at SouthPoint Arena & Equestrian Center.

Quip of the Day:  Q:  You have three cups of coffee and 20 sugar cubes? How do you put an odd number of sugar cubes into each cup of coffee using all 20 sugar cubes?
1 cube in the first cup, 1 cube in the second, and 18 in the third because 18 is definitely an odd number of sugar cubes to put in coffee!
